About Us

Shree Samartha Vyayam Mandir, Dadar, a Premier & Pioneer Physical Education Institute, situated in the heart of Mumbai City, at Shivaji Park, is working relentlessly since 1925 in the field of Physical Education & Sports. It is a charitable Trust, registered under Societies’ Act and works for the spread of physical culture and sports, irrespective of age, gender, caste and creed.

History

Vyayam Maharshi Late P. L. Kale Guruji founded this Institution on 23rd August 1925. This was the period of pre-independence; the training of weapons such as swords & spears was banned. Considering the need to prepare the younger generation for the freedom struggle, Kale Guruji taught them all these skills, using Lathi – kathi, fari-gadaka (a leather shield in one hand and a wooden stick in the other hand). The flame of patriotism was awakened in the children and young generation, through morning rallies, sport displays and competitions, marching skills and team demonstrations. The Institution has glorious history of supporting freedom – fighters, Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Hutatma Rajguru, Sardar Prithvi Singh Azad and other legends of the freedom struggle were given shelter and supported by this Institution during their exile.
After independence, the Institution has taken up the task of creating a strong generation through the promotion and dissemination of exercise, with the motto ‘Service to the community is service to humanity’. The aim of the organization is to unite the youth, instill a sense of self-discipline in them, inculcate good health and behavioral habits, motivate them to adopt a studious research attitude and progress, and build a spiritual foundation for all this through purity, accuracy and good intentions.
